The sector picked up speed after a lull during holiday season.

There were a number of interesting developments on the managed third party side. Rackspace partnered up with a systems integrator called Lightstream as it looks to add capabilities in on-boarding and migration. Meanwhile, Logicworks recently added support for Azure and is bolstering its managed third party cloud arsenal with third party technology.

Another recurring theme in the sector is the ongoing pivot to application platforms. Namecheap rolled out a new WordPress service and Nexcess added support for another e-commerce platform.

The global cloud footprint continues to expand amid accelerating cloud adoption. Salesforce went live on AWS in Canada and AWS is also looking to expand in South Africa in the near future. Azure also added new US government cloud regions and Internap and OVH expanded as well.

There were a number of strategic developments. UK-based private equity firm Palatine acquired The Bunker, Spotinst raised $15m in a Series A and Plesk acquired a software company called XOVI (details to come).

There were also some notable changes in executive circles. Rackspace brought in a new CFO, The Bunker has a new management team, there were a number of changes at Pulsant and DataBank added a new EVP of corporate development.
