APAC, Europe, hyperscale, M&A, e-commerce, SMB, security, Canada
The past week saw more developments around hyperscale that were global in scope, while there was some strategic activity, interesting product releases and more activity in the increasingly busy Canadian market.
Hyperscale continues to push growth in Europe and APAC. Digital Realty pointed to cross-regional growth within its portfolio and CyrusOne is targeting an APAC entry in the near future as it continues to make progress in Europe. Meanwhile, Global Technical Realty is set to build for hyperscale in Slough, while in APAC, STT GDC is building in Noida, India, DCI Data Centers acquired land in Auckland, New Zealand, and AWS rolled out a third AZ in Beijing, China.
In North America, Cologix is expanding in Columbus and multiple Canadian markets, DataBank expanded in Pittsburgh and Microsoft brought online a new cloud infrastructure region in Phoenix, Arizona.
On the strategic side, OVH reiterated its plans to go public and released data points on its bottom line performance. There were a few transactions of note, with Amber Infrastructure Group acquiring iSeek in Australia, Inflexion investor UKFast picking up cloud consultancy ANS and Telarus consolidated another provider in the master agent game.
On the product side, Plesk augmented its platform through e-commerce provider Ecwid, Involta partnered with Radware for security, while Akamai built new capabilities for fighting ransomware.
Finally, Canada continues to see activity. Cologix acquired a former Zayo site in Vancouver and plans to expand the capacity there and also started a hyperscale expansion in Toronto. Interconnection uptake has been steady in Canada for Cologix and they shared some interesting data points. Elsewhere, Bell Canada partnered with AWS to enable Wavelength zones on Bell’s 5G wireless network.
