A busy week saw continued M&A activity on the MSP and managed infrastructure side of the market, while more earnings results came in and edge footprints expanded.

Given the turbulent state of the economy, there is a lot of conversation in investment circles around the value of technology stocks and the data centre category is seen by some bears as a bad bet. We take a closer look at why many of the rationales behind that view are misguided.

There were a number of transactions of note. Master agent and channel distributor AVANT acquired PlanetONE as it looks to scale up, while 11:11 Systems acquired Unitas Global’s managed infrastructure assets. Both 11:11 and Unitas Global have completed transactions of late, with the former assembling a new platform and the latter looking to focus in on the network market. There continues to be consolidation in the MSP space, with Coretelligent picking up Lighthouse Technology Partners and Opti9 merging with Canadian provider HostedBuzz. Finally, on the data centre side, CIM Group upped its stake in Utah’s Novva Data Centers.

Earnings season drew to a close and we take a closer look at results coming from CyxteraFastly, and on the hyperscale slide, Alibaba Cloud.

Networks and edge footprints are expanding at a steady pace. Colt Technology Services extended its network to Bordeaux and SeoulVerizon and AWS expanded their collaboration with Wavelength and AWS also set up two new edge locations in LatAm for its video streaming service.

Finally, there was yet more activity in Spain. NTT GDC opened its first data centre in Madrid, Interxion acquired land in Barcelona for a new campus build and Santander shared more details about its move to cloud.
